Moldovan President suggests indexing pensions twice a year.
The presidency held consultations with partners on social dialogue on pension projects initiated by the president of the country. The discussions were attended by representatives of the National Confederation of Trade Unions, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection, and the National Social Insurance Fund. During the meeting, a bill on indexing pensions twice a year was considered, providing for indexation of pensions on April 1 and October 1. The April indexation is proposed to be carried out according to the current procedure - for all beneficiaries, in accordance with the growth of inflation over the past 3 years. From October 1, 2020, it was proposed to index pensions of about 400 thousand pensioners whose pensions do not reach a living wage. This level will gradually rise to reach more beneficiaries of dual indexation. The meeting also considered the initiative to guarantee for a certain period of payment of pension to the spouse of the recipient in the event of his premature death. According to the National Social Insurance Fund, in 2018, 3268 pension recipients died in less than 5 years after retirement. Accordingly, people all their lives have contributed to the social security system, as a result, they received a pension for a very short period - an average of 2.6 years. The legislative initiative will help encourage taxpayers to pay contributions to the social insurance fund and guarantee the payment of pensions to spouses of beneficiaries. Both bills will soon be registered in parliament as a legislative initiative. // 07.08.2019 — InfoMarket.
