In 2014-2019 the size of the minimum wage in Moldova increased from 1650 to 2775 lei (+ 68.2%).
According to the State Tax Service, the guaranteed minimum wage is increased, including to identify employers' risks of undeclared labor and pay salaries in envelopes to employees. Thus, in recent years, the guaranteed minimum wage has increased annually: in 2014 it amounted to 1650 lei, in 2015 - 1900 lei, in 2016 - 2100 lei, in 2017 - 2380 lei, in 2018 - 2610 lei. From May 1, 2019, the guaranteed minimum wage in the real sector increased by 165 lei to 2775 lei per month. Thus, employers in the real economy since May 1 cannot offer their employees a salary of less than 16.42 lei per hour (2775 lei per month). Salary is calculated for an average working time of 169 hours per month. The guaranteed minimum wage in the real sector serves as the basis for the differentiation of wages, based on professional training, qualifications and competence of the employee. It is annually revised by the government depending on the growth of the consumer price index and the growth rate of labor productivity.
