Parliament re-voted for the law on the transfer of a section of the former Republican stadium for the construction of a new US embassy there.
Earlier, President Igor Dodon refused to promulgate this law and returned it to the deputies for revision, proposing a number of amendments. Yet, the Parliament again approved this law, retaining the original version of the document, with the only clarification that the plot of land in Chisinau municipality with an area of 5.1814 hectares at Tigina str., 12, on which the Republican Stadium was located, can be sold at a price not lower than the market. Recall that at the end of the spring session, the parliament approved the demolition of the Republican stadium and the transfer of the land on which it was located for the construction of a new US embassy building in Moldova. The draft law was developed taking into account the intention of the US authorities to acquire this land plot in the center of Chisinau, as well as the Memorandum of Understanding between the governments of Moldova and the US on the land acquisition. According to these documents, the Moldovan government will determine the value of the property, negotiate the price and sign a contract for its sale. It was noted that the price of the sale of land has not yet been determined, and negotiations on it will begin only after the completion of the assessment of its market value. The funds from the sale of the former Republican Stadium will be spent on the development of the sports infrastructure of Moldova, in particular, will be used to develop the technical and material base of physical culture and sports. However, President Igor Dodon refused to promulgate the law, believing that the decision to sell was made without extensive public consultation. In addition, he believes that on the site of the former Republican stadium it is necessary to equip a park or build a cultural center, which will be used by all residents of the country. //04.10.2018 — InfoMarket.
