The sales volume of mobile telephony services in 2016 decreased in Moldova by 4.4% (- 159 million 020.3 thousand lei), making up 3 billion 441.9 million lei.
This was reported by the National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technologies, noting that the decline was due to a decrease in sales of mobile telephony services of Moldcell and Orange Moldova companies. In particular, the sales volume of Orange Moldova decreased by 129.8 million lei (-5.4%) - to 2 billion 255.5 million lei, Moldcell - by 38.5 million lei (-3.6%) - to 1 billion 040.4 million lei. At the same time, Moldtelecom's sales (Unite brand) increased by 9.3 million lei (+ 6.8%) and amounted to 146 million 028.4 thousand lei. As a result, the average monthly income per user (ARPU) of mobile telephony of Moldova decreased in 2016 by 4.1% and amounted to 66.2 lei. In Orange, this figure was 75.3 lei Moldova, Moldcell - 57.6 lei, Moldtelecom - 36.5 lei. Compared to 2015, the position of the three providers in the mobile telephony market, by revenue, has changed slightly in 2016. For example, Orange Moldova company’s market share has decreased by 0.7 percent points to 65.5 percent, and the market shares of Moldtelecom and Moldcell companies increased by 0.3 0.5 percentage points and, accordingly, by 0.5 percentage points, accounting for 30.2% and 4.3%. The ANRCETI specialists explain the decline in sales volume in the mobile telephony market, noted in 2016 for the first time in recent years, by the change of mobile telephony users’ consumer preferences in favor of alternative solutions for obtaining the same services on the Internet that are cheaper or are provided for free (Skype, Viber,). // 20.03.2017- InfoMarket.
