The National Bank of Moldova and the Bank of France will expand bilateral cooperation and strategic partnership
This was discussed during a meeting between the Governor of the National Bank of Moldova (NBM), Anca Dragu, and the French Ambassador to our country, Dominique Waag, Head of the Regional Economic Service for Southeast Europe Nicolas Sejour, and other representatives of the economic and financial mission at the French diplomatic mission in our country, Greece, and Romania. According to the NBM, the dialogue focused on the macroeconomic situation, bilateral cooperation between the two countries, the strategic partnership with the Bank of France, and the progress achieved in the European integration process. Anca Dragu spoke about the measures taken by the NBM to strengthen financial stability, noting the downward trend in the inflation target and the return of the economy to growth. She also highlighted the priorities of the NBM's reforms aimed at strengthening institutional governance, modernizing the payment infrastructure, and continuing structural reforms that support Moldova's European path. In this context, the NBM Governor noted Moldova's accession to the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) as an important achievement that confirms the country's commitment to international standards and brings it into the European payments and financial services market. Anca Dragu emphasized that Moldova's accession to SEPA confirms the banking system's ability to operate in accordance with international standards and ensures fast, secure, and more affordable transactions for citizens and the business environment. According to her, this is the result of joint efforts, demonstrating our determination to accelerate structural reforms that effectively integrate Moldova into the EU economic space. Anca Dragu highly appreciated France's openness to expanding bilateral cooperation and the strategic partnership between the Bank of France and the National Bank of Moldova, implemented through technical assistance projects, in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding between the two organizations signed earlier this year. “Our country needs support on its European path, and France serves as a model of best practice and a benchmark for modernizing and strengthening the financial system in line with European standards. Through cooperation and active dialogue, we can build a sustainable economy,” concluded the NBM Governor. Moldova and France established diplomatic relations in 1992 and have since developed partnerships in many areas: economy, science, defense, investment, agriculture, transport, and others. // 24.10.2025 — InfoMarket.
