In Moldova, the powers of the STS will be expanded to prevent and combat economic crimes.
It is planned that for this the State Tax Service will be given the authority to conduct a criminal investigation in accordance with the Law on Special Investigation Activities. This is provided for by amendments to existing legislation, which the government adopted at a meeting on Friday. According to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Sergiu Puscuta, the amendments stipulate, in particular, the provision of such powers of the STS to prevent and combat the following economic crimes: illegal business activities; illegal financial activities; pseudo-entrepreneurial activity; tax evasion of enterprises, institutions and organizations; tax evasion of individuals; transportation, storage or sale of excisable goods without marking them with control or excise stamps; illegal production of state excise stamps, their putting into circulation and use; misappropriation, alienation in cases not permitted by law, concealment of pledged, leased, seized or confiscated goods and property; intentional bankruptcy; fictitious bankruptcy; falsification of accounting documents. It is planned that in order to fulfill these new powers, the State Tax Service will create specialized units with hiring personnel, as necessary, within the framework of existing vacancies. Accordingly, the staffing of the STS will not increase. As a result of the approval of the proposed changes, prosecutors will work with the STS, and criminal prosecution for economic crimes will be carried out mainly with the involvement of employees of the STS criminal investigation department. In addition, will be provided a partial redirection of resources of the Ministry of Internal Affairs from the investigation of economic crimes to the prevention and fight against other crimes.// 03.07.2020 — InfoMarket.
