Deflation in Moldova has been registered for the third month in a row; in August it amounted to 0.03%

Since the beginning of the year, inflation amounted to 4%, and annual inflation (over the past 12 months) - 5.5%. The National Bureau of Statistics reported this, noting that in August last year deflation was also registered; it which amounted to 0.2% at that time. In January-August 2018, the consumer price index fell by 0.4% as a whole, and annual inflation in the period from August 2017 to August 2018 amounted to 6.9%. It should be noted that in June and July 2019 in Moldova, deflation amounted to 0.2% in both cases. According to the NBS, in August 2019, consumer prices decreased by 0.03% versus the previous month, amid a decrease in food prices by 0.6%, an increase in prices of non-food products - by 0.2% and a 0.6% increase in tariffs for services provided to the public. According to official statistics, in particular, in August 2019, the prices for the following food products decreased versus the previous month: fresh vegetables - by 10% (eggplant - by 43.4%, watermelon and melon - by 36.2%, carrots - by 28.4%, sweet peppers - by 28.3%, tomatoes - by 20.3%, beets - by 14.4%, dry onions - by 12%, garlic - by 9.8% , cabbage - by 1.6%), fresh fruits - by 4.7% (grapes - by 30.6%, garden stone fruits - by 7.1%, pome fruits by 7%), potatoes - by 6.5%, lard - by 2.1%, wheat flour and sugar - by 0.2%. At the same time, during the reporting period, prices for the following food products increased: chicken eggs - by 21%, cucumbers - by 11.5%, zucchini - by 7.1%, exotic fruits - by 2.6%, corn flour - by 1.9%, pork - by 1.1%, milk and dairy products - by 0.7% (cottage cheese - by 1.3%, sour cream - by 0.9%, whole milk - from 0.6%), fish and canned fish, citrus fruits and berries - 0.6% each, poultry meat, meat products and semi-finished products - 0.5% each, beef and cereals - 0.4% each. As far as the non-food products are concerned, then in the reporting period, prices for most goods remained at the level of the previous month. At the same time, writing materials went up a little - by 1%, shoes - by 0.9%, children's clothes - by 0.8%, women's dresses - by 0.7%, medicines - by 0.6%. Men's tracksuits, women's jackets, electrical tools, travel and haberdashery goods, kitchen furniture went up by 0.5%. At the same time, during the reporting period, fuel prices decreased by 0.5%, men's sandals by 0.6%, women's coats by 0.4%. Among the services provided to the population, in August 2019, compared to the previous month, the rent for student hostels increased by 8.1%, the electricity tariff for households from August 23 increased by 2.9%, the cost of passenger air transportation - by 2.6%, hotel services - by 1.9%, travel services abroad - by 1.5%, catering and child care services in kindergartens and nurseries - by 0.6%.
