$ 12 million were budgeted for the continuation of the project "Competitive Agriculture of Moldova" (MAS-R).
As Liviu Gumovschi, the Executive Director of the Joint Division for the Implementation and Monitoring of Agrarian Projects of the World Bank in Moldova UCIMPA, noted in an interview to the Economic Review, the MAS-R project includes three components: “Modernization of the food safety management system”, “Improving sustainable soil management" and "Facilitating access to markets". Activities within all these components will be continued, approximately $ 4 million each are reserved for them. The agreement between the Moldovan Government and the World Bank on granting our country the first preferential (for 20 years, at 0.75% per annum) loan of $ 18 million for the implementation MAS-R was signed back in 2012. This was followed by additional loan agreements with the WB, and the Government of Sweden (SIDA) and the Global Environment Facility also contributed to the financing of IAS-R. In total, the budget of the MAS-R project, which was to be completed in June of the current year, was $ 47 million. Not all this amount was disbursed by the project beneficiaries by the target date for its completion. Therefore, in early May of this year, the Moldovan government received the official consent of the WB to extend the project for 2 years - until the end of June 2021. The total financing of the project for this period will be about $ 12 million, both from the World Bank and the Global Environment Fund. $ 3.4 million for sustainable soil management activities. // 07.06.2019 - InfoMarket.
