The problem of the monopoly with the export of grain in Moldova could be solved by building a new grain terminal in the Giurgiulesti port or in Ungheni - Vadim Brinzan.

This opinion was expressed by the Minister of Economy and Infrastructure on the TV8 channel. He noted that grain producers are now forced to sell their products at prices dictated by Transoil, which has a kind of monopoly on grain exports through the constructed grain terminal in the port of Giurgiulesti. According to the minister, if this monopoly is eliminated by economic methods, then the port should be state-owned, and it needs to be developed, attracting new serious investors for the construction of new grain and other terminals, which requires about 20 million euros. In addition, he recalled that Moldova has a port in Ungheni, where it would also be possible to implement solid investment projects. Earlier, President Igor Dodon said that the Supreme Security Council will study the situation with the attempt of some companies to introduce a monopoly on the purchase of agricultural products, in particular of grain, and dictate prices to producers. He noted that this problem was considered among others at a meeting of the Supreme Security Council. Farmers complained about the monopoly on the purchase of agricultural products, in particular when one of the companies buys and exports 80% of all grain and tries to dictate prices to producers, offering low cost. “We will understand this issue” the president said. Trans-Oil Group is the largest exporter of sunflower and wheat seeds from Moldova, the country's largest producer of vegetable oil and refined vegetable oil in bottles with a market share of 80% and 90%. The TRANS-OIL group of companies is included in the list of 20 largest agricultural holdings of the Black Sea basin and is the largest agricultural holding in Moldova. The group controls 14 elevators, which makes up 85% of the total storage capacity in Moldova for oilseeds and grains. The group also owns 2 modern oil refineries with a total processing capacity of 1.6 thousand tons of sunflower per day. The infrastructure of TRANS-OIL GROUP of COMPANIES includes 3 modern transshipment terminals in Giurgiulesti and 2 modern transshipment terminals in Reni (Ukraine) with a total transshipment capacity of 2,400 thousand tons. The general investor and operator of the Giurgiulesti port is Danube Logistics. // 08.08.2019 — InfoMarket.
