The problem of the monopoly with the export of grain in Moldova could be solved by building a new grain terminal in the Giurgiulesti port or in Ungheni - Vadim Brinzan.
This opinion was expressed by the Minister of Economy and Infrastructure on the TV8 channel. He noted that grain producers are now forced to sell their products at prices dictated by Transoil, which has a kind of monopoly on grain exports through the constructed grain terminal in the port of Giurgiulesti. According to the minister, if this monopoly is eliminated by economic methods, then the port should be state-owned, and it needs to be developed, attracting new serious investors for the construction of new grain and other terminals, which requires about 20 million euros. In addition, he recalled that Moldova has a port in Ungheni, where it would also be possible to implement solid investment projects. Earlier, President Igor Dodon said that the Supreme Security Council will study the situation with the attempt of some companies to introduce a monopoly on the purchase of agricultural products, in particular of grain, and dictate prices to producers. He noted that this problem was considered among others at a meeting of the Supreme Security Council. Farmers complained about the monopoly on the purchase of agricultural products, in particular when one of the companies buys and exports 80% of all grain and tries to dictate prices to producers, offering low cost. “We will understand this issue” the president said.
