Certificates for agricultural products issued in Moldova will be recognized on the European market, also domestic environmental products will be easier to export to the EU.
This is provided for by the Government approved draft Law on Ecological Agricultural Production and Labeling of Ecological Products. The new regulations will contribute to a better functioning of the domestic market, ensuring fair competition and increasing citizens' confidence in products labeled as ecological. The document provides for the recognition of certification institutions of Moldova at the international level and these changes will allow manufacturers to export products to the EU with the indication “ecological”. At the same time, international certification institutions accredited in the EU will not be required to pass accreditation in Moldova. This will allow manufacturers to access subsidies, even if they certify their products in international institutions. Until now, only manufacturers who have applied for certification to national authorities have received subsidies. The bill establishes standards for environmental products, the production of which does not allow the use of GMOs, soil fertilizers and other products that are contraindicated in organic agriculture. Products labeled as ecological must contain at least 95% organic ingredients. To grow such products, farmers will use only organic seeds, and then organic products will be stored separately from non-ecological products. Herewith, the law establishes a system of supervision in the field of ecological agricultural production and stipulates the powers of the competent authorities. To ensure tighter controls, the National Food Safety Agency is included in the certification process. The bill also establishes a single model for certificates issued to manufacturers. To date, each Agency has issued certificates of different formats. Ecological products are products obtained without genetic interference and the use of chemicals. Currently in Moldova there are 136 companies specializing in the cultivation of environmental products. Last year, about 52 thousand tons of certified environmental products were exported to EU countries.//14.11.2018 - InfoMarket.
